Changes at Oxford School of Music!
We here at OSOM would like to inform everyone that as of this August Rick has turned over the school's operations to a new owner. His name is Matthew Long (see the bio below). It has been wonderful getting to know you all, and serving you in your musical adventure. Be assured that everything will be essentially the same including the same great teachers that you are familiar with. Please join us in Welcoming Matthew to the school of Music!
My best, Rick
Matthew is father to Elijah and Isaac, and husband to Kathy. A choir boy since junior high, Matthew plays guitar and percussion, and has acted in community theatre; a woodworker, he has built marimbas, tongue drums and a guitar; a 'strummer & hummer' he enjoys playing and singing in a band, performing in churches and at coffee house 'open mics'. A yoga and meditation instructor, former CPA and ordained minister, he is looking forward to getting to know all the youngsters and oldsters at Oxford School of Music.

The Oxford School of Music Rock Band performed 4 songs to end the yearly Winter Recital. Once again Christ the King Church opened its doors for the event. "the venue is great and the sound in there is good too!" said one of the attendees.
The songs played were "makes me wonder" by Maroon 5, "Renegade" by Sticks, " Red"by Taylor Swift and the Band wrapped up with Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive". Band members include Baily Brocco, Electric Violin and Vocals, Abby Green Lead Vocals, Issac Long, Guitars, Greg Martin, guitars.....and Issac (chad) Ossege on drums. Rick Samano filled in on Bass for Victoria Kelly who wanted to be there but doctors ordered her not to play just yet! We hope she gets well soon. Rick said she is a really fine musician and young person too, "she takes her music very seriously...but in a fun way too"!
The young musicians did a great job with the variety of material....country to classic rock to pop, all sounded great! someone in the audience said they loved the way the electric Violin comlimented and added dimention to the rock music. "Almost like another voice"!
The drummer did a great job keeping the beat and a member of the audience was overheard saying "how good he was for being so young"! Drum instructor Lonnell Lewis said he was really proud of Issac and hopes he will continue to learn and rock out! The vocals were solid and on key, both girls did a great job. The guitarists were very good also, playing together as tho they had been bandmates for ages! Owner Rick Samano, who produces the Rock Band seemed pleased also, he told this reporter that "all these kids have alot of talent and they worked really hard to make the show happen" What is the Bands name I asked? Not sure, something like "Featuring Chad"? Wierd name.......but thats Rock and Roll for you!

Oxford School of Music begins 2012 in new building!
It was only a year ago that the Oxford School of Music opened its welcoming doors, offering music lessons, an innovative Rock Band Program and stringed instrument repair. Music enthusiasts, of all ages, have flocked to the studio, seeking the opportunity to learn music in this supportive environment. The studio's success has been so overwhelming that the Oxford School of Music has recently moved it's location to better meet the community's music needs.
Rick Samano, the owner of the Oxford School of Music, is no stranger to encouraging musical development. He successfully ran Lapeer Music for over a decade, fostering talent in both young and old. Mr Samano opened the Oxford School of Music because the community desperately needed a local lesson studio, especially with the school district’s view that music is an important educational building-block for all children. We wanted to be a part of the local community, working with kids and adults who are passionate about music, its a lot of fun" says Mr Samano.
The result has been one success after another, finally prompting the studio to move to a bigger, better space just next door to the original studio.
The Oxford School of Music provides instruction for many instruments including guitar, bass, drums, vocal training, piano, violin, viola and flute. Mr Samano says “one-to-one teaching is the best way to develop musical ability and we keep this model central to our school's teaching philosophy.” Students are encouraged to perform at regular concerts and special events throughout the year. “These opportunities boost motivation and confidence, while allowing the pupils to experience the excitement associated with playing live as early as possible in their music career” suggests Mr Samano.
In addition, a dynamic Rock Band Program is offered which affords musicians the opportunity to play in a real band, perform in concert and, finally, record a demo Cd of their work. Some of Samano's former Rock Band students actually went on to perform at the DTE energy theatre last summer.
The Oxford School of Music also offers guitar setups and repair, beginner instrument sales and rental. The studio’s new location is: 125 S. Washington (M24), just south of downtown Oxford and they are open Tuesday through Saturday. Their phone number is: 248-572-4881 and helpful website is: www.OxfordSchoolofMusic.com
